A massive misconception nowadays – due to social media and good ol’ popular culture – is that somehow by taking a cute little quiz online, or by a mole on your shoulder, or by pissing on a stick like some damn pregnancy test that you will know if you are a witch or not.
Disgusting.
A mockery of not just the ancient practice of Witchcraft, but of Magick as a whole.
Some people even go to alleged self-proclaimed “mediums” and blah-blah-blah, get a Tarot reading and are told that they are a “hedge witch”, a “white witch” or some other such bullshit. The worst part? People believe this nonsense.
Being an actual Witch means that you practice Witchcraft. Witchcraft is the practice of using magick, spells, rituals, and supernatural forces to influence events, people, or the natural world. It often involves harnessing energies from nature, spirits, or deities. Witchcraft traditions vary across cultures, ranging from ancient folk practices to modern spiritual paths or Occult systems.
No one and nothing can deem you a “witch” – be it a “white witch”, “grey witch”, “earth witch”, “hedge witch” or any of the anime-icecream-style flavors of “witches”. You yourself, through your own Magickal practices determine whether you are a Witch or not. Fact.
Sure, some people are inherently and naturally predisposed to Occult and Magickal practices…BUT this does not by default make you a Witch, a Mage, a Frater or a Practitioner of any kind. If you are predisposed to Magick, it simply means that, if you seek to pursue any Magickal path or paradigm, that you will excel in it. That’s it.
People should watch a little less Charmed, Sabrina, Shadowhunters, and AHS: Coven…and read a little more Gerald Gardner, Reginald Scot, Charles Leland and others if they want to know the tip of the multifaceted iceberg called Witchcraft.
…and if you don’t know who Gerald Gardner, Reginald Scot and Charles Leland are? Then you definitely need to start researching actual Witchcraft and stop taking quizzes or scrolling through TikTok. You're embarrassing yourself.
